Evening Chronicles

5 Articles

In this series, the artist seeks a unique path to understanding the powerful sensual effects of evening and night, and their connection to broader questions of time, space, fear, non-being, desire, death, oblivion, vision, and mystery.
Evening is perhaps the most mysterious time of day. It connects day and night, filled with the magic of darkness and the secret of twilight.
It is not merely a temporal interval between day and night, but a unique philosophical space, a threshold where the clear boundaries of reality are blurred.
This is a time when the visible merges with the invisible, giving birth to a special, tremulous aesthetics of transition.
Night will always fascinate and frighten, for all that is secret and mysterious both terrifies and delights us. As the French Symbolists, who elevated night to an artistic allegory, rightly noted, darkness becomes the space of the soul.
Aesthetically, night has traditionally been conceived as a symbol of eternity and transcendent being, reminding us of the insignificance of humanity before the universe.
Night is a time of numerous transitions, of mysterious sensations arising from the darkness. It is a time when the visible and the invisible are connected, a time for subtle dialogues with nature and with oneself—dialogues capable of transforming the nocturnal chaos into a new quality of reality.
And furthermore—it is the time of stars. And one must look at the stars from time to time to feel the authenticity of one's own existence.
It is at this time of day that one contemplates life, all its wonders; the desire to create awakens, and thoughts carry one high into the black, unknown distance. One wants to unravel the mystery of the night, but only more mysteries appear. It is like a dream—beautiful and unexplored. And you want to return to it, again and again…
